ExpressVPN launches new apps for Identity Defender, adds new features for identity protection 

The new dedicated apps for iOS and Android expand monitoring and protections, helping more users stay ahead of identity threats

Previously available within the ExpressVPN app, Identity Defender now offers a dedicated identity protection experience built specifically for identity monitoring. 

By keeping Identity Defender separate from the VPN, users can manage identity tools in a privacy-first environment with a redesigned interface tailored to identity monitoring. This update also supports faster improvements and the continued rollout of new protections as identity threats evolve.

Expanded monitoring, stronger protection, and new alerts

The standalone Identity Defender app includes the core Identity Defender features users already know: ID Alerts, ID Theft Insurance, Credit Scanner, and Data Removal.

• ID Alerts help users watch for signs of identity misuse, such as suspicious activity linked to their personal details. 
  • It includes Dark Web Monitoring, which now covers a wider set of identifiers to improve visibility into potential exposure on illicit sites and forums, including business license information, crypto wallet identifiers, gamertags, mother’s maiden name, NPIN, and usernames, alongside details like name, address, date of birth, email, and Social Security number.
• ID Theft Insurance (provided by Assurant) offers restoration support and financial coverage in the event of identity theft. Eligible users can now access expanded coverage options, increasing protection from $1M to $3M and $5M.
• Data Removal helps reduce exposure by finding and removing personal information from data brokers and people-search websites.
• Credit Scanner provides ongoing visibility into a user’s credit, with access to real-time alerts and detailed monthly Credit Report for potential fraud, so users can spot risks early and track changes over time.

As part of today’s launch, ExpressVPN is introducing new monitoring capabilities that are enabled by Identity Defender’s standalone architecture, including:

• Auto Title Monitoring: Monitors vehicle title records and alerts users to changes that may signal suspicious activity, unauthorized transactions, or attempted title fraud.
• Home Title Monitoring: Detects unauthorized changes by continuously monitoring home title and public property records, alerting users so they can take action against title fraud.
• Court Record Monitoring: Proactively monitors public court and judicial records for activity linked to a user’s identity and sends alerts to help detect potential misuse, identity fraud, or unauthorized legal activity.
• Neighbourhood Watch: Alerts users if a registered sex offender moves into their area, supporting situational awareness and personal and family safety.
• High-Risk Transaction Monitoring: Detects unusually large or suspicious financial transactions associated with a user’s identity to surface early warning signs of fraud or account compromise.
• 401(k) Alerts: Monitors retirement account activity for unusual changes, withdrawals, or access attempts, helping users detect and respond to potential retirement account fraud.
